Day and Weekend Trips

Please use the menu below to see what sightseeing, shopping, entertainment and dining options are available in Santa Barbara.

One of the reasons our students love to stay in Santa Barbara is because there are so many nearby attractions and tourist sites. A visit to Hearst Castle is always popular, and be sure to take your camera when you go to the charming town of Solvang!

Hearst Castle

Hearst Castle

Located about 2½ hours north of Santa Barbara, Hearst Castle is the former home of newspaper baron, William Randolph Hearst, and one of the world's most amazing buildings.

Several tour operators can arrange visits to Hearst Castle – our favorite tour is the Evening Tour. Reservations are recommended. Don't forget to visit the giant elephant seals just 4 miles north of the castle!

Wine Country

Wine Country

The Santa Ynez wine country allows you to sample some of California's best wines right at the winery. There are many different wineries offering guided tours and wine tasting.

Several tour operators offer day trips from Santa Barbara to the winery, including those from Santa Barbara Adventure Company

Solvang

Solvang

Solvang is often described as the “Danish Capital of America”. It is one of the most beautiful small towns in California and has an unique charm that will make you believe you are actually in Denmark!

Located 45 miles northwest of Santa Barbara, Solvang can be easily reached by Amtrak bus in about 45 minutes.

Channel Islands

Channel Islands

The Channel Islands offer a variety of activities such as hiking, SCUBA diving, snorkeling, swimming, bird watching, kayaking, whale watching, and sailing.

The islands are located off the Santa Barbara coast and can be reached by boat in about 90 minutes (Anacapa Island). Visit Truth Aquatics for transportation information.
