There are so many different year-round shows and events in Santa Barbara that it is almost impossible to list them all. The city has a number of theaters and movie theaters; there are lots of interesting markets and crafts shows; and there are plenty of bars for evening entertainment.
Events Calendar
There are numerous festivals and events in Santa Barbara throughout the year, and the variety is amazing! Joining these events is usually quite interesting and a good way to soak up the local atmosphere.
Theaters
Santa Barbara is a great location if you like going to theaters and seeing plays. The city features numerous theaters, including the Ensemble Theatre Company and the Center Stage Theater. Keep an eye out, too, for some of the interesting street performers who ply their trade downtown along parts of State Street.
Arts & Crafts Show
An interesting way to spend a Sunday is to visit the Arts & Crafts Show on East Beach. Here, local artists display a large variety of artwork that is often very original. Some students like to buy small items as souvenirs of their time in Santa Barbara. A trip to the show can usually be combined with a tour of the nearby Stearns Wharf.
Movie Theaters
There are several movie theaters not far from the Student Home in the State Street (downtown) area. We suggest you stroll around State Street and see what's playing.
Farmers Market
Always interesting and popular with our students, the Farmers Market is held on Tuesday evenings in State Street. The market offers produce, snacks, local artwork, street performers and music.
To get there, head downtown to 500-700 State Street. In the Summer the market starts at 16:00 and finishes at 19:30. In Winter, it starts at 15:00 and finishes at 18:30.
